HI, I’m Amy!
I love tenacious whimsy, sarcastic wit, and pretty much all animals (jury’s still out on the Harpy Eagle). As a kid, at the time when some photographers already knew taking photos was what they were meant to do, I wanted to be a zookeeper. I was a volunteer at Woodland Park Zoo for about 20 years, starting at age 10. I always liked art and drawing, but I definitely took a more winding path to get here. Which, tbh, feels pretty on brand for me.
Short Story: I had a few photographer friends in high school and college who would travel all over the place and come back with these beautiful, warm photos of the people, places, and events they’d experienced. Somewhere along the way, I realized I wanted to do that too. Not just to take photos, but to capture those feelings and preserve those moments in a way that felt meaningful and unfiltered.
Longer Story: Fast forward through lots of blurry film rolls, and it would be eight years before a coworker would ask me to photograph her small elopement on Orcas Island. One year later, I switched to a part-time position at a new job, took out a bunch of student loans, and enrolled at the Art Institute of Seattle. Three awesome years later I graduated with my photography degree and seven years after that, on May 2nd, 2014, I finally quit my day job and became a full-time photographer. It’s been a long journey, but I don’t think I’d have it any other way.
